Pride of Poland horse auction brings in nearly EUR 2.2 mln

The world-famous Pride of Poland Arabian horse auction in Janów Podlaski, eastern Poland, has brought in almost EUR 2.2 million, officials have said.

The annual auction, held on Sunday, featured 24 Arabian horses, mainly from Polish state stud farms in Janów Podlaski, Michałów and Białka.

Bidders could choose from 22 mares and two stallions.

El Esmera, a five-year-old mare from Michałów, fetched the highest price, going to the Al Zobair Stud from the United Arab Emirates for EUR 810,000.

Another horse from Michałów, a nine-year-old mare named Wildona, was sold for EUR 650,000 to a buyer from Switzerland.

In all, 14 horses were sold, organisers announced.

Pride of Poland attracted bidders from countries including France, Belgium and Portugal.

The auction crowned the 45th Polish National Arabian Horse Show, which featured 120 horses from state and private breeders.
