"We are supporting Ukraine in its efforts to repair, recover and keep the state running," von der Leyen said in a social media post on Tuesday.
"Today we paid a new €1.5 billion to Ukraine," she added.
"And more will come, this year and beyond," von der Leyen declared.
The EU last year pledged to provide Ukraine with up to EUR 1.5 billion in aid a month in 2023.
Von der Leyen on Tuesday hailed a "productive meeting" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a Ukraine-Balkan summit in Greece, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
"We discussed Ukraine’s progress on the EU path as well as our continued support in the face of Russia’s aggression," von der Leyen said on the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter.
"We’ll continue working together to bring Ukraine’s grain to world markets and to provide economic assistance," she added.
Zelensky tweeted that he met with von der Leyen "to thank her for her efforts to normalize Ukraine’s agricultural exports and transit."
He said it was important to "fully restore" his country's agricultural exports from mid-September.
Zelensky added: "We expect a positive assessment of Ukraine’s progress in the October Enlargement Package and a consequent decision by EU member states to open Ukraine’s EU accession talks until the end of 2023. We also coordinated positions on the Peace Formula as we advance to the Global Peace Summit."
EU leaders in June formally approved Ukraine as a candidate to join the 27-nation bloc, in a move hailed by many as historic.
Earlier this month, senior officials from some 40 countries, including Poland, held a summit in Saudi Arabia to discuss ways to bring about a peaceful end to the war in Ukraine.
The two-day meeting was part of a diplomatic push by Kyiv to build broader international support for Zelensky's 10-point formula for a peace settlement, news agencies reported.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Tuesday is day 545 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
