The Czech Republic boasted the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in August, at 2.5 percent, followed by Malta with 2.7 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.
Meanwhile, Spain had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 11.5 percent, and Greek unemployment was the second-highest at 10.9 percent, according to the latest available data.
Eurostat reported on Monday that the EU average for August was 5.9 percent, down from 6 percent in July.
Poland's statistics office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last week that the Polish jobless rate held steady at 5 percent in August, unchanged from July.
