Polish jobless rate among EU's lowest, at 2.8% in September: Eurostat

Unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.8 percent in September, unchanged from the previous month and one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation European Union, the bloc’s statistics agency has reported.

The Czech Republic boasted the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in September, at 2.7 percent, followed by Poland and Malta, each with 2.8 percentaccording to the Eurostat agency.

Meanwhile, Spain had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 12 percent, and Greek unemployment was the second-highest at 10 percent, according to the latest available data.

Eurostat reported on Friday that the EU average for September was 6 percent, stabled compared with August.

Poland's statistics office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last month that the Polish jobless rate had held steady at 5 percent in September, unchanged from August.
