Polish unemployment stable at 5% in October: stats office

Unemployment in Poland held steady at 5 percent in October, unchanged from September, the country’s statistics office said on Friday.

The reading was in line with an earlier estimate by the government.

There were around 770,400 people without jobs across the nation at the end of October, compared with 776,000 a month earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) office.

The state-run statistics agency reported earlier this month that employment in Polish companies inched down by 0.1 percent in October on average in year-on-year terms.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.8 percent in September, unchanged from the previous month and one one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation bloc.
