The reading was in line with an earlier estimate by the government.

There were around 788,200 people without jobs across the nation at the end of December, compared with 773,400 a month earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) office.

The state-run statistics agency reported earlier this month that employment in Polish companies inched down 0.1 percent in December on average in year-on-year terms.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.8 percent in November, unchanged from October and one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation bloc.
