Employment down, wages up in Polish firms y/y in February: stats office

Employment in Polish companies dropped by 0.2 percent in February on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in February increased by 12.9 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 7,978.99 (EUR 1,845, USD 2,000), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy estimated earlier this month that Poland's unemployment rate held steady at 5.4 percent in February, unchanged from January.
