The largest group of respondents (17 percent) intends to allocate between PLN 3,000 (EUR 699) and PLN 4,000 (EUR 932) for their vacation, the poll by BIG InfoMonitor shows.

Savings remain the most common source of holiday funding, cited by 58 percent of respondents. Other significant sources include current income (46 percent) and additional earnings (7 percent).

The survey highlights a range of planned spending, with 16 percent planning to spend PLN 2,000-3,000 (EUR 466-699) and 13 percent intending to spend PLN 5,000-6,000 (EUR 1,165-1,399).

The findings come at a crucial time for the hospitality industry, which is still recovering from the severe impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic inflation and geopolitical uncertainties.

The total debt of the accommodation sector stood at nearly PLN 983 million (EUR 229 million) at the end of April, a decrease of PLN 47.3 million (EUR 11.03 million) from the same period last year, according to the Polish News Agency PAP.

Waldemar Rogowski, chief analyst at BIG InfoMonitor, told PAP that while the debt is decreasing, the sector has not yet stabilized.

The survey also indicates a growing trend for longer vacations, with 57 percent of Poles planning trips longer than a week, a 5 percent increase from 2022.

This trend is especially notable among Generation Y (ages 35-44) and residents of medium and large cities.

Financial constraints remain the primary reason for not planning longer holidays, with 41 percent of respondents citing lack of funds.

However, there is an increasing interest in international travel, with 41 percent of Poles planning trips abroad, up from one-third in 2022. These trips are slightly more often organized through travel agencies (24 percent) than independently (19 percent).

The survey was conducted by Quality Watch for BIG InfoMonitor in June 2024, using a sample of 1,049 respondents.
