Many businesses in Poland are facing challenges in finding qualified professionals, the Rzeczpospolita daily newspaper reported on Monday.

At the end of the first quarter of this year, there were 112,000 job openings nationwide, 15.3 percent more than three months earlier, according to the country’s statistics office.

The staffing shortages are impacting at least half of the companies in various sectors, including construction, manufacturing, transportation and logistics, which heavily rely on immigrant labor, Rzeczpospolita reported.

It said analysts with the Polish subsidiary of French bank Crédit Agricole have assessed that the scope for immigration from culturally similar countries such as Ukraine and Belarus is already limited.

"The potential for immigration from these regions is gradually decreasing, and further tightening of immigration policies could further affect the arrival of workers from more distant countries," the Crédit Agricole analysts said, as cited by Rzeczpospolita.
