A hotel in southwestern Poland launched an unconventional marketing campaign that turned out to be a major hit in the Polish hospitality industry. Almost all of Poland's biggest news portals have covered the story. So what’s the secret behind this anti-blockbuster?
From tragedy to comedy
It's no secret that Poles aren't particularly known for their sense of humor, and one of our national traits that we tend to hold dear is our love for complaining.
The lack of enthusiasm shown by the receptionist presenting the hotel's offerings initially becomes so irritating that most viewers can't help but see the humor in the absurdity of the scene.
The video shows a woman reluctantly giving a tour of the hotel, casually introducing one of Poland's biggest boxing stars, Tomasz Adamek, without a hint of excitement.
She then proceeds to unemotionally present the hotel's other amenities, such as the pool, game room, sauna, gym, and bars and restaurants.
Power of authenticity. How an awkward ad captivated millions?
In a world of advertising dominated by unnecessary special effects, the key to the success of this unusual material was its authenticity. It’s no coincidence that the term "authentic" became Merriam-Webster's word of the year.
