Over 200,000 Ukrainian refugees take jobs in Poland: officials

More than 200,000 refugees from war-torn Ukraine are working legally in Poland, officials announced on Wednesday.

The latest figures were unveiled by the head of the State Insurance Office (ZUS) Gertruda Uścińska, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Some 209,000 refugees from Ukraine legally employed in Poland

At a conference in Berlin, Germany, Uścińska said: “According to the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, around 209,000 refugees from Ukraine are working legally in Poland.”

She added that 69 percent of them were women. 

The head of ZUS noted that the majority of refugees (70 percent of women and 58 percent of men) worked on the basis of a contract for services.

Most of the others (29 percent of women, 42 percent of men) work under a contract of employment, Uścińska said. 

She also noted that the biggest share of working refugee women (37 percent) worked in administrative and support services, while the biggest share of working refugee men (29 percent) were employed in the construction sector.

Wednesday is day 105 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
