The 47-year-old man, who has been arrested for 3 months, was drunk when being placed under arrest. He has been accused of "mistreatment of animals with extreme cruelty" - an offence carrying a possible sentence of up to 5 years in prison.

Katarzyna Topczewska, a lawyer representing the animal rights NGO "Viva!" and commenting on another case of animal cruelty, has said that Polish prosecutors are taking animal cruelty more and more seriously.

The puppy miraculously survived the fall with neck injuries. The Foundation "Zwierzęta Nieczyje" is taking care of the puppy and is seeking donations for its further treatment.
