By the end of November, Poland had provided temporary protection to a total of 939,865 Ukrainians, more than any other EU country, according to the Eurostat agency.

Among EU member states for which data are available, Germany came in second with 901,930, and Spain was third with 153,760.

In November alone, Poland granted temporary protection to 40,370 Ukrainians, according to the EU statistics office.

Temporary protection is a procedure used in the event of a mass influx of displaced persons from third countries who are unable to return to their country of origin, Eurostat said.
