Every year after Easter many Polish households are left with a large amount of surplus food that often ends up in the trash.

"Yet, it does not have to be like that if you make an effort and provide your Easter leftovers to one of the several food sharing facilities in Polish cities," an expert says.

“We try and educate people that food sharing is not an aid effort, but a drive to save food from the bin," says Katarzyna Krygier, a campaigner from the eastern Polish city of Lublin.

"It’s not about helping those in need, it’s about saving food," she adds. "You simply donate a surplus of the food that you know you will not be able to eat,” she adds.

Radio Poland's Michał Owczarek has the story.
