According to Eurostat, last year, the EU had 4.48 million unemployed individuals aged 15 to 29, accounting for 6.3 percent of the total population in the age group. When examining the long-term trend, this percentage in 2022 is historically the lowest since 2009 when it stood at 9 percent.

However, the situation varied significantly among EU member states. The Czech Republic boasted the lowest share of young unemployed individuals in the total population at 2 percent, followed by Germany and Bulgaria at 3.3 percent each, and Hungary and Poland at 3.5 percent each. Spain had the highest youth unemployment rate at 11.2 percent, followed by Greece (10.6 percent), Sweden (10.3 percent), and Cyprus (8.8 percent).

Compared to 2021, most EU countries experienced a decrease in the share of unemployed youth in their respective populations. The exceptions were Cyprus and Latvia, both with an increase of 0.1 percentage points, as well as Romania (0.3 percentage points) and Estonia (0.4 percentage points).
