The rules for holding the two voting events on the same day were announced by the National Electoral Bureau (KBW) on Thursday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Voting in the parliamentary elections and the nationwide referendum will take place in the same polling stations, using the same ballot  boxes, and will be overseen in each constituency by a single electoral commission, according to officials.

Each voter will be eligible to receive three ballots, for elections to the Sejm (lower house of parliament), for elections to the Senate (upper house of parliament), and for the referendum.

Voters may take part in one, two or all three of these votes depending on individual preferences, the State Electoral Commission (PKW) said.

The head of the National Electoral Bureau, Magdalena Pietrzak, said that while parliamentary elections would be valid regardless of voter turnout, the national referendum required the participation of more than half of those eligible to vote, in order to be binding.

Poland's lawmakers on Thursday approved a government plan to hold a nationwide referendum on issues including illegal migration together with parliamentary elections on October 15.

In the parliamentary elections, Poles will head to the ballot box to elect 460 new MPs and 100 senators for a four-year term, the PAP news agency reported.
