Earlier this month, Uznański was admitted at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany where he is now undergoing tests and daily training for a potential space mission.

“My last fortnight in here has shown that each day looks different,” he told Polish Radio.

“I wake up at 7am and that’s at least one fixed item on the agenda, then I start my training at 8 or else at 9. The sessions deal mainly with theory but last Thursday I had medical tests, so I spent the whole day at hospital for check-ups,” he added.

The first Polish individual to have embarked on a space mission was General Mirosław Hermaszewski who travelled into Earth's orbit in 1978.
