As the university authorities emphasize, THE (Times Higher Education) World University Rankings is the largest, most prestigious, global ranking of academic institutions covering over 100 countries. This year marks its twentieth edition.

In 2022, the Opole University of Technology was included in the ranking for the first time, reaching 9th place out of 32 research centers. This year it went up, as it now holds fourth place in the classification of Polish technical universities.

"For our academic community, this is a great reason to be proud, especially since the ranking results are used by both university candidates and foreign scientists who are looking for universities to conduct their research in," emphasized Prof. Marcin Lorenc, rector of the Opole University.

This year's edition of the ranking included over 1,900 universities from 108 countries. On a global scale, the Opole University of Technology maintained its position from the previous year, taking place in the range of 1201-1500 next to such universities as the Warsaw University of Technology, the Silesian University of Technology, and the Poznań University of Technology, thus obtaining one of the better results among the 37 Polish universities qualified for the current ranking.

THE ranking assesses universities in terms of their main missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international perspectives. Institutions are assessed against 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators grouped into five categories: teaching (learning environment), research environment (size, research revenues, and reputation), research quality (impact citations, research strength), international perspectives (employees, students, and research) and industry (knowledge transfer, industry revenues, and patents).
