Santander Bank has published a new study investigating how Polish couples manage their finances and split costs. Do Polish couples trust each other financially?

The report, published by Santander Bank, provides a snapshot of several key social structures that have undergone considerable change in Poland in particular: roles of men and women, how much we connect relationships with financial responsibilities and how much interest we take in our daily financial situation.

In particular, the report has found that:

  • 57% of Polish couples share a joint budget
  • 23% consciously "go Dutch" - splitting costs 50-50
  • 59% do not monitor how much each of the partners spends individually (the "romantics"?)
  • Of this 59% who are not tracking their partner's spending, 65% are married couples, i.e. marriage brings or represents financial trust.
  • 30% have a mixed system, where common costs like the heating bills are split 50-50 but other more "personal expenses" come out of separate accounts

The research was carried out for Santander Consumer Bank by the IBRiS Institute, using the CATI method on a sample of 1001 people.
