The study, entitled Teens 3.0 and published on Monday, was compiled by the state research institute NASK, the PAP news agency reported.

Some 40 percent of teenage respondents said they have been verbally abused on the internet.

The most common reason was physical appearance, mentioned by 51 percent of those teens who reported being subject of verbal abuse online.

Meanwhile, 38.5 percent said they did not experience such abuse, up from 32.4 percent in the previous study in 2020, the PAP news agency reported.

Polish teens spend online an average of 5 hours and 36 minutes a day, compared with 4 hours and 50 minutes in 2020, NASK also said.

The parents estimated that the time their children spent online was some 90 minutes a day, researchers added.

The majority of Poland's teens, 53.7 percent, said their parents did not put any restrictions on their access to the internet.

Among those whose parents laid out rules for internet use, 72.9 percent said they complied with these rules, the PAP news agency reported.

The Teens 3.0 study was carried out in October and November last year through computer-assisted web interviews with a sample of 4,984 Polish teenagers and 1,255 parents and legal guardians, from 160 schools across the country, NASK said.
