Poland’s Zakopane reminds of a fireworks ban ahead of New Year’s Eve

The authorities of the Polish mountain resort of Zakopane warned that fireworks are banned in the city ahead of New Year’s Eve, in a bid to increase resident’s safety and protect animals.

The city’s authorities reminded that “fireworks can be dangerous to people firing them, and those nearby.”

“The sound of the fireworks is also harmful for wild and domestic animals,” the authorities said, adding that “in order to protect ourselves and our relatives, as well as animals, please do not use fireworks.”

Last year, Poland’s firefighters had a hectic New Year’s Eve night as they were called to tackle some 1,900 blazes caused by fireworks.

Five people were killed and 17 others injured as a result of the fires.

Firefighters, police and medical services urged the public to be cautious with fireworks to avoid getting hurt during festivities.
