This year's edition, initiated by the Faculty of Biology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, has garnered substantial interest, with many events already fully booked.

On Friday, January 12, over 1,200 events, including lectures, lab visits, workshops, quizzes, shows, art workshops, games, and tours, are scheduled across 30 scientific centers across the country.

This year's program features a diverse array of activities, with small group workshops and laboratory visits making up more than half of the offerings. Online lectures and broadcasts are also included.

Among the many scheduled events, visitors will be able to learn about bioluminescence at the University of Gdańsk (in a blacked out space), delve into the neurobiology of escape rooms at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, and dig deep into the insidious influence of microplastics on the biosphere, at the University of Białystok.

The Night of Biologists, drawing inspiration from the popular Night of Museums, began in January 2012 at the Faculty of Biology of Adam Mickiewicz University. Its growing popularity is attributed to the passion and enthusiasm of its organizers – coordinators from various centers, scientists, doctoral students, students, and volunteers.

Last year's 12th edition attracted approximately 137,000 in-person attendees and about 70,000 online participants, a significant increase from the 20,000 or so participants in its inaugural year.

Beata Messyasz, the national coordinator, emphasized the importance of this event in bringing different perspectives on the secrets of life, from the molecular level to the role of organisms in ecosystems and the biosphere. She also highlighted the event's success recipe: the collective enthusiasm for biology and related sciences, unified under a common platform and symbolized by the event's mysterious, wandering black cat logo.
