Poland's Lublin opens new EUR 78m transport hub

Poland's eastern city of Lublin has launched a new hub for public bus transit and rail transport, worth PLN 340 million  (EUR 77.9 million).

City administrators opened the new facility, called the Metropolitan Station, on Friday. 

Lublin Mayor Krzysztof Żuk said it was a "long-awaited and historic moment" for the city and the surrounding region.

He added the hub would "integrate the public bus and van transit as well as rail transport in and around Lublin."

The mayor also praised the Metropolitan Station's "impressive look" and "eco-friendly design."

Lublin's new transport hub cost PLN 340 million (EUR 77.9 million), the portalsamorzadowy.pl website reported.

The European Union co-financed the project, providing PLN 194 million (EUR 44.5 million), according to city officials.
