Sixty-six percent of Poles say they celebrate Valentine’s Day with their other half and many are expected to spend big to mark the occasion, Personnel Service has said.

This includes spending money on buying a Valentine's Day present, looking the part and spending nice time together, the company said in a new report.

With its trademark romantic dates, presents and special attractions, Valentine’s Day means a spike in shopping purchases, but also more customers visiting restaurants, cinemas and spas, says Personnel Service’s founder Krzysztof Inglot.

"As some people celebrate, others are in for a bigger payday," he adds.

"Valentine's Day is a holiday that evokes a variety of sentiments—some love it, some hate it, and others simply ignore it," Inglot said in the latest report. "Nonetheless, businesses diligently gear up for the occasion every year, flooding the market with Valentine's Day hearts, red roses, balloons and chocolates. This surge in demand isn't just confined to retail; the service sector also feels the strain, with employees busily preparing weeks in advance and only catching their breath once February 14 has passed."

Florists, couriers, waiters

Florists and delivery workers, for instance, are expected to cash in as lovers like to send each other flowers on Valentine’s Day.

Also in demand are waiters and kitchen workers as many couples plan to go out for a romantic dinner, according to Personnel Service.

Best-paid jobs: massage therapist, hairdresser, makeup artist

Meanwhile, massage therapists, hairdressers and makeup artists are the highest-paying Valentine’s Day jobs in Poland, the study found.

Hairdressers and makeup artists can expect to earn up to PLN 120 (EUR 28) per hour in the big cities.

As many couples opt for a shared massage or a visit to the spa on Valentine’s Day, massage therapists stand to earn up to PLN 240 (EUR 55) per hour, Personnel Service said.
