Italian newspapers and global commentators are closely monitoring Francis' condition, hopeful yet apprehensive about his ability to lead the remaining Holy Week and Easter Sunday ceremonies.

The Vatican attributed his absence to a precautionary measure to "preserve his health" in anticipation of the Easter Vigil Mass at St. Peter's Basilica, known for its length and the physical toll it takes on the celebrant.

According to La Repubblica, despite the Pope's initial insistence on attending the Colosseum event, he ultimately heeded medical advice, leading to a last-minute cancellation announced by the Vatican Press Office.

This recent development adds to a series of health-related challenges the Pope has faced, notably evident when he unexpectedly opted out of delivering a homily on Palm Sunday, choosing instead to observe a moment of silence.
