This year marked the 10th edition of the International Day of Yoga with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.”

The idea of International Yoga Day was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 27, 2014, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, where a resolution to establish June 21 as International Yoga Day was introduced by India’s Ambassador, Asoke Kumar Mukerji.

The date of the Summer Solstice was chosen as it is the day when there is the most sun out of every other day of the year.

Ever since, devotees of the 5000-year-old practice take their yoga mats and get together for sun salutations in many countries, including Poland.

"In December 2014 the UN General Assembly adopted this resolution, and I am so happy that one of the nicest things of living in Poland is how people here really love yoga. They know yoga well and there are many yoga schools around the country" HE Nagma Mallick, India's Ambassador who hosted the weekend session at the Embassy told Radio Poland’s Danuta Isler.

Saturday's yoga practice there was conducted by the teachers of the Art of Living Foundation.
