From May 6 to June 30, social consultations regarding the restriction of alcoholic beverage sales were conducted among Warsaw residents. According to DGP, the interest in these consultations was unprecedented, with over 8,000 surveys submitted to the Warsaw City Hall.
The final decision will be announced at the end of the holiday season, as the city authorities have 60 days to prepare a report and consider the opinions of the local community.
It is not yet certain whether the alcohol sales restrictions will apply to the entire city or be implemented selectively in various districts. A month ago, city activist and sociology doctor Jan Śpiewak submitted a draft resolution on this issue, supporting the idea of not only limiting access to alcohol (e.g., at gas stations) but also banning the promotion of alcoholic beverages.
It cannot be that vodka on promotion costs ten zlotys, and beer is cheaper than mineral water. In our view, such promotions violate existing laws, but it is good to clarify them. Ultimately, any ethanol advertisement should be banned. Stimulants do not need promotion or advertising, Śpiewak argued on x.com.
Although previous public opinion polls indicate that most Warsaw residents support the introduction of night prohibition, entrepreneurs and retailers who sell alcohol are opposed to these changes.
