Stop hate speech in public life. An important social appeal

Civil society organizations in Poland are calling on politicians, the media, and the public to take decisive action against hate speech.

Nearly 40 organizations have signed an appeal against the spread of hate speech, highlighting threats painted in Kalisz that endanger democratic values and public safety.

The Institute of Public Affairs and the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights initiated this appeal.

Katarzyna Zacharska from the Institute of Public Affairs noted that the appeal responds to threats targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Minister Adam Bodnar, and the LGBT community in Kalisz.

She emphasized that both public institutions and citizens must actively counter the growing campaign of hate and aggression.

The authors of the appeal also call for greater responsibility from the media and politicians in de-escalating conflicts and actively addressing all forms of aggression to prevent further spread of hatred in society.
