"We discovered the wreck of an old sailing ship, about 20 metres long, resting at a depth of 56 meters,” team member Marek Cacaj told public broadcaster Polish Radio on Wednesday.
“It turned out there were many bottles of champagne on board, along with bottles of mineral water, ceramics, and likely many other items,” he added.
The discovery was made about 20 nautical miles off the Swedish island of Öland.
After examining the shape of the bottle stamps, historians surmised that the ship might have made its fateful voyage between 1850 and 1867.
Radio Poland's Michał Owczarek has the story.
