The blue-crowned hanging parrots, naturally inhabiting the forests of the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra, and smaller islands in this region, have been brought to the Warsaw Zoo from Leipzig, Germany.
These birds are 12cm in height, weigh 28g, and have a longevity of 14 years.
Their name, the blue-crowned hanging parrots, is related to their way of rest. These birds sing while hanging upside down. They are recognized by their green plumage, black beak, and characteristic blue feathers arranged like a crown on their head.
In Malay literature, the blue-crowned hanging parrot symbolically represents love and is considered a love bird.
The Warsaw Zoo's recent additions include more than just parrots. The zoological garden has joyously welcomed the newly born snow leopard, armadillo, and yellow-tailed snow leopard.
