On Thursday evening, the Polish Police announced via social media that two bodies were discovered in the Kłodzko and Nysa counties in the southwestern part of the country during post-flood cleanup efforts.
"The circumstances of death suggest these may be the 8th and 9th victims of the flood-affected areas," the statement read, adding that authorities are working with the prosecutor's office to identify the bodies.
RMF FM reported that an autopsy will be conducted on Friday after soldiers found the remains among flood debris near residential areas as the water receded.
According to official information, the confirmed death toll from the floods in Poland remains at seven.
The national police chief, Commander Marek Boroń, announced during a crisis meeting in Wrocław that verified data shows no increase in the number of deaths, and only one person remains missing in the flood-affected areas.
Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak had earlier urged for an accurate assessment of the situation based on facts and respect for the victims, emphasizing that only the police are authorized to provide official victim data.
Currently, the flood wave is passing through Kostrzyn nad Odrą in western Poland. Water levels are lower than initially predicted, but authorities are still monitoring the condition of flood barriers, according to the local police.
According to Polskie Radio in the Widuchowa area in northwestern Poland, near the German border, floodgates on the German side were opened.
