A spooky phenomenon, tied to a haunting legend, has made an appearance—and it's one that every mountaineer knows well: the infamous Brocken Specter.

Captured on camera at Kasprowy Wierch on the morning of October 12, the eerie spectacle involves a shadowy figure surrounded by a glowing rainbow halo. Known as the Brocken Specter, this mystical play of sunlight, fog, and clouds creates a mesmerizing, yet spine-tingling display. But beware—there's a dark twist.

Legend has it that anyone who witnesses the Brocken Specter in the mountains is doomed to meet their end there. The sight, while stunning, is enough to send shivers down your spine. Fortunately, there's a way to break the curse: spot the phenomenon three times, and you'll be forever safe in the mountains, or so the legend says.

The Brocken Specter is the magnified shadow of an observer cast in midair upon any type of cloud opposite a strong light source. The observer’s head can be surrounded by a bright area called Heiligenschein, or halo-like rings of rainbow-colored light forming a glory, which appear opposite the Sun's direction.
