The collection, consisting of over 100 ancient items, came to light when photos of the objects were sent to the regional office for the Protection of Monuments in Szczecin.
The trove includes 30 bronze necklaces, as well as various weapons, shield fittings, sickles, and spearheads, along with several silver items.

A police officer specializing in the recovery of stolen artifacts was quickly assigned to the case. The investigation led to individuals who had circulated the photos, who claimed they found the treasure after it was anonymously left outside the Gryfino historical society’s office.
A police spokesperson described the find as “one of the largest Bronze Age treasures discovered in Poland in recent years.” They added: “The artifacts were removed from the ground without authorization, destroying their archaeological context and preventing further dating and analysis.”

The collection, comprising 73 large items and various smaller pieces, has been handed over to the regional monument office, which will determine its future location after the investigation concludes.
Authorities are now working to trace those responsible for the unauthorized excavation. If identified, the individuals could face up to eight years in prison under Poland’s Heritage Protection Act.
