Authorities are urging parents to thoroughly inspect the treats their children received this Halloween.
In Gniezno, in west-central Poland, police have received four reports of sharp objects—such as needles, pins, nails and pencil sharpener blades—discovered in candy handed out to trick-or-treaters.
Similar incidents have been reported in the country's northwest, the Silesia region in the south, and near the western town of Lubin.
Anna Osińska of the Gniezno police department said officers are working diligently on the case and conducting "operational reconnaissance" to uncover any leads to apprehend the culprits.
Former police officer Maciej Szuba told public broadcaster Polish Radio's IAR news agency that obtaining clear evidence such as fingerprints could be challenging for investigators.
