The 27-year-old was stopped by customs officials at Manchester Airport in October with two suitcases containing nearly 40 kilograms of vacuum-sealed cannabis hidden beneath clothes. Bednarska, who resides in Manchester, initially claimed the bags belonged to a friend named "Tex," who had paid for her flights and asked her to bring back designer goods and watches from Phuket.

Appearing in court, Bednarska admitted she was facing severe financial difficulties, including EUR 19,180 in debt. She told the court she had agreed to the trip in exchange for EUR 21,600, believing she was importing luxury items.

Judge John Potter sentenced Bednarska to a 20-month prison term, suspended for two years, citing her limited role in the operation and her apparent financial desperation. However, he did not withhold criticism, stating: “You simply lived beyond your means. You decided to place your trust in someone you hardly knew and acted under the direction of others, potentially for further profit.”

The judge also highlighted the societal impact of drug trafficking, saying, “I am sure you can imagine the harm that wholesale value drugs have on our communities when they are sold for profit. You have directly contributed to this by agreeing to do what you did.”
