During the Ignis mission, Poland's first-ever technological and scientific mission to the International Space Station (ISS), Uznański will conduct 13 experiments in technology, biology, medicine, and psychology, prepared by Polish scientists and engineers.
"Ignis means fire, and anyone who knows Jurek Owsiak and has followed the 32 previous WOŚP finals knows that in the middle of winter, Poland has fire and energy," said Krzysztof Paszyk, Poland's Minister of Development and Technology, during a press conference.
The politician highlighted the significant contribution of WOŚP's initiatives to the development of Polish medicine. Soon, discoveries made in space by Uznański could add to these positive contributions to science and the noble goal of helping others.
Uznański emphasized that the European Space Agency mission will test Polish technology in space, contributing to the global economy and inspiring young engineers.
WOŚP founder Jurek Owsiak, however, pointed out the progress in medical technology over the past decade, noting that previous donations from the foundation have significantly improved Polish oncology and hematology.
The event spotlighted the donation of a WOŚP heart, which will travel to space next year with Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański. The auction of the heart, part of the 33rd WOŚP Finale on January 26, aims to raise funds for pediatric hematology and oncology. Photo: PAP/Tomasz Gzell
During the upcoming WOŚP Finale, which will take place on Sunday, January 26, 2025, volunteers will collect donations in over 90 foreign branches across more than 20 countries around the world.
