According to the Carpathian Border Guard Unit, she had used a pen to mark the names of countries and airport locations on nine of the document’s pages, beneath various border control stamps.

“The handwritten entries rendered the passport unusable, meaning the woman was not entitled to cross the border or enter Poland,” spokesperson Justyna Drożdż said on Wednesday.

The traveler, who flew in from London, was questioned as a witness and reportedly unaware that writing in her passport constituted an offense. She has been refused entry and will remain in a designated area of the airport until Thursday, when she is due to return to London.
