Polish astronaut weds before historic space mission

Before embarking on his historic space mission and experiencing a state of weightlessness, Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański has entered the holy state of matrimony by marrying his sweetheart Aleksandra, according to media reports.

Later this year, Uznański will become the second Pole to travel to space, following in the footsteps of Mirosław Hermaszewski.

The 40-year-old plans to carry a heart-shaped symbol of Poland’s Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP) into orbit—a touching nod to the country's most popular charity event.

The launch is scheduled for spring, but Uznański, a scientist with the European Space Agency, made sure to secure a happy personal life first.

Stellar year for Sławosz Uznański

This year will be special for him not only because of his cosmic adventure but also due to his wedding, which took place just after the New Year, on January 2.

Uznański married Aleksandra Wiśniewska, a Polish politician with Thai roots who is 10 years his junior. The couple adopted double-barreled surnames, becoming Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski and Aleksandra Uznańska-Wiśniewska.

The ceremony was held in their hometown of Łódź, central Poland. It was officiated by the city's mayor, Hanna Zdanowska.

Aleksandra shared details on social media, declaring the couple’s hopes for love, humility and service to others, including Poland and Europe.

The newlyweds also announced plans for a larger celebration with family and friends after Uznański's return from space.

Power couple

Uznański, who holds a Ph.D. in electronics, previously worked for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), where he supervised the development of a radiation-resistant power converter control system, which became a key component of the Large Hadron Collider.

Later, he began astronaut training at the European Space Agency's European Astronaut Centre (ESA).

His wife also boasts impressive credentials, having graduated from the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics. She has significant experience in humanitarian work and is currently a member of parliament for Poland's governing Civic Coalition group (KO).

Her stunning looks are attributed to her mixed Thai-Polish heritage. Her father, Radosław Wiśniewski, is a wealthy entrepreneur and the creator of the Top Secret clothing brand.
