The head of Polish government emphasized that the Ministry of Health is working with the Ministry of Justice to develop measures aimed at preventing such incidents in the future.
In a video posted on X on Wednesday afternoon, Tusk stated that Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna and Justice Minister Adam Bodnar have been working intensively for the past several hours to ensure that such attacks do not happen again in Poland.
"Listen, to be honest, it can’t and won’t be the case anymore that some drunk thug raises a hand against EMS personnel—someone who was called to save their life. Anyone who attacks an emergency responder saving lives must regret it for the rest of their life, and that’s exactly how it will be," Tusk declared.
Following the tragic attack in Siedlce, a city located about 90 km east of Warsaw, where an intoxicated man fatally stabbed an emergency medical worker, the government has taken steps to enhance the safety of emergency responders.
A meeting at the Ministry of Health explored potential measures, including tougher penalties for assaults and equipping first responders with body cameras and stab-resistant vests.
