Polish citizens can begin applying for the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) on March 5, ahead of its mandatory implementation for travel to the UK on April 2, 2025.
This requirement does not apply to those with a British passport or settled/pre-settled status.
What is the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)?
ETA is a digital entry or transit permit for the UK, introduced in October 2023 and gradually expanded to more countries.
As previously reported, on January 8, 2025, the ETA kicked in for 48 countries, and from April 2, 2025, it will become mandatory for citizens of 34 European nations, including Poland - except for those with a British passport, settled status, or pre-settled status.
The document allows multiple entries and stays of up to six months but does not grant work rights, access to benefits, or permanent residence.
The ETA application fee will increase from £10 to £16, and applications can be submitted via the UK ETA App or the official website, with processing times of up to three business days.
ETA will replace the Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) program and significantly limit visa-free travel to the UK, except for British and Irish citizens traveling within the Common Travel Area.
