Local police said the shocking finding was reported on March 10 by an employee at the plant.

“The worker noticed a fully formed fetus in the sewage grate,” said police spokesperson Katarzyna Szewczyk of the Bieruń County Police.

Prosecutor’s inquiry underway

Krystyna Stacha, a prosecutor from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Tychy, confirmed that a preliminary autopsy indicated the fetus was stillborn, with undeveloped lungs that would not have supported life outside the womb.

Investigators are now working to clarify the circumstances under which the fetus ended up in the wastewater system.

“Likely, toxicology, histopathology, and DNA analyses will be necessary,” Stacha told Polskie Radio 24, noting that written reports from expert consultations are pending.
