The 2025 theme of the International Day is “60th anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms Racial of Discrimination (ICERD)”, the United Nations writes on its website.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the day the police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid "pass laws" in 1960.

On December 21, 1965, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) through Resolution 2106 (XX), marking a groundbreaking step in the global effort to eradicate racism.

People around the world commemorate this day by organizing special events. In Poland, a march will be held on Saturday to express opposition to Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and all forms of racism, xenophobia, and hatred towards refugees and migrants.

The march will begin at 1:00 PM local time.
