Polish rally driver Miko Marczyk has officially claimed a Guinness World Record after driving a round trip between the cities of Łódź and Paris on a single tank of fuel, covering 2,873 kilometers—over 300 kilometers more than the previous record.

The achievement, which took place in early March, was confirmed with an official certificate presented on Tuesday at a ceremony held in Warsaw.

Extreme ecodriving

Marczyk explained that his drive required “extremely ecodriving-like” techniques, with an average speed of around 85 km/h—similar to that of trucks traveling on expressways or highways.

“It wasn’t just cruising on cruise control,” he said. “I was constantly monitoring fuel consumption and weather conditions. On German highways, going downhill, I even reached 150 km/h. The idea was to drive in such a way as to use the least amount of fuel possible.”

Overall, the Skoda Superb used for the trip averaged 2.6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

“I drove the newest-generation Skoda Superb, which has very good aerodynamics. That mattered a lot because aerodynamic drag was a key factor. I used optimal tires, filled the fuel tank to the brim, and set off. The drive to Paris took me 17 hours—Google Maps had predicted 16 hours—so I wasn’t crawling along.”

Official verification

After the trip ended, organizers opted for an expedited verification process. Once GPS and camera footage were reviewed, along with all relevant documents, the new Guinness World Record was confirmed.

Marczyk, who typically competes in the European Rally Championship (ERC), has now turned his attention back to racing. He finished fifth in the first ERC round, the Rally Sierra Morena in Spain, where he took third place in the final Power Stage to secure extra championship points.

The second round of the ERC, the Rally Hungary, will take place from May 9-11, while the fourth round—Poland’s signature rally, based in the northern town of Mikołajki—follows in mid-June.
