A total of 5,517 marriages were registered between Polish citizens and foreigners, including 2,647 Polish women and 2,870 Polish men marrying non-Polish partners.
Ukrainians were the most common spouses for both genders. Among Polish women, 534 married Ukrainian men, followed by British (276), Turkish (182), German (139), and Italian citizens (104). Polish men most often married Ukrainian women (2,013), followed by Belarusians (215), Russians (56), Lithuanians (25), and Britons (24).
The highest proportion of international marriages was recorded in the southwestern region of Lower Silesia (5.6%), followed by Masovia (5.4%), West Pomerania (4.9%), Lubuskie (4.7%), and Lesser Poland (4.6%). The lowest rate was in Subcarpathia (2.2%).
While the percentage remains modest compared to other European countries—such as Switzerland (34.8%), Luxembourg (27.4%), and Spain (16.5%)—the 2024 figures confirm a steady rise in cross-border unions.
“International partnerships are no longer an exception but a growing feature of Poland’s social landscape,” the GUS report noted.
