Built by over a thousand workers in just 227 days – on three shifts around the clock – the project cost more than PLN 3.5 million, equivalent to tens of millions in today’s terms.

It paid for itself within three years.

At the time, it was considered an engineering marvel and one of the most significant infrastructure investments in pre-war Poland.

"The cable car remains one of Zakopane's main attractions – the queues speak for themselves," said Jan Krzeptowski Sabała, a Tatra guide and historian of the Podhale region.

To mark the anniversary, visitors at the summit were treated to cake, displays of vintage ski equipment and talks by mountain rescue workers and guides.
