Speaking to Polish Radio, Grzesiowski explained that the individual is currently required to self-monitor their health and remain in regular contact with sanitary authorities. If symptoms such as headaches or fever appear, the person must immediately notify health services and report any changes in their condition throughout the monitoring period.

According to the Chief Sanitary Inspector, the individual currently shows no symptoms of illness.

“The person is observing their own health condition and remains in contact with us. This is the standard procedure. If any health problems arise, the person reports to a specialist in the country where they are staying, and we are informed about it,” Grzesiowski said.

Health officials stressed that hantavirus does not pose the same epidemic threat as influenza or coronavirus infections.

The person under surveillance may have had contact with passengers from the expedition cruise ship Hondius, where an outbreak of the Andes virus was detected.

So far, eight infections with the Andes virus have been confirmed, and three people have died. The victims include a Dutch couple and a German citizen.
