The exercises, part of the government's Civil Protection and Civil Defense Academy program, are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 29-30, and are open to anyone free of charge.
Officials and emergency service personnel will walk participants through a basic response drill: recognizing an alarm signal, confirming it through official channels, deciding what to do, and locating the nearest shelter. Sessions will also cover how to pack an evacuation bag, tailoring supplies to a family's age, health and needs, and pointing out common packing mistakes.
"In an emergency, a fast response from the services matters, but so does the knowledge and practical skills of each of us", Deputy Interior Minister Magdalena Roguska said in a statement announcing the initiative. She added that officials want residents to know what to do when they hear an alarm siren, where to find trustworthy information and how to prepare an evacuation bag.
Training sites will be set up in cities, tourist towns and everyday gathering spots such as volunteer fire stations, libraries and community centers. A full list is posted on regional government websites. The largest event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Plac Centralny in Warsaw, next to the Palace of Culture and Science.
The ministry said roughly 290,000 people have taken part in similar civil defense training sessions since the start of 2026.
