The Government Security Centre has warned to people trying to cool off not to go swimming after drinking and not to jump into the water immediately after sunbathing.

Last year, over 500 people drowned in Poland. Most often such accidents occurred at unguarded bathing sites or in places where bathing was prohibited.

The authorities have cautioned that bravado and alcohol can prove a deadly mix, causing swimmers to overestimate their skills in the water
