The threshold for a country to enter the US Visa Waiver Program is a 3-percent refusal rate.
The rate for Polish nationals for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2018 was 3.99 percent, down from 5.92 percent a year earlier, according to the US embassy.
Meanwhile, in recent months a growing proportion of Polish applicants have been issued US visas, causing the denial rate to drop below 2.8 percent for the first time in history, the onet.pl website has reported, citing sources it did not name.
Poland may be officially invited to join the US visa-free travel program once the fiscal year ends on September 30, according to the website.
Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Sunday that Poles may soon be able to travel without visas to America as the country is well on track to be included in the US Visa Waiver Program.
US Vice President Mike Pence said this month in Warsaw that Poland “is nearing eligibility" for the program.
The US ambassador to Poland, Georgette Mosbacher, has vowed to help lift visas for Poles travelling to America by the end of 2020.
