In an interview published in Friday’s edition of the Rzeczpospolita daily, Health Minister Łukasz Szumowski was cited as saying that Poland would see between 1,000 and 1,500 cases in the days ahead.
"Of course, in the days following that, the number will increase, perhaps beyond 10,000 or so. However, we hope that in a week, maybe two weeks, our preventive efforts, such as closing schools, kindergartens and shopping malls, will brings results, and the number of new infections will slow," he said.
A total of 378 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Poland, while five people have died after being infected, the health ministry said on Friday.
The government has decided to shut schools, limit the operations of shopping malls and close all pubs, clubs and casinos.
